Dr. John Shepherd
Dr. John Shepherd graduated from Northview High School, Purdue University (BS in Biological Sciences, minor in Psychology), and Iowa State University (DVM). He started his practice career in a multi-hospital, multi-doctor practice in the Indianapolis area. After the first 6 months of practice in rotation through three of the hospitals he was given the responsibility of Hospital Director.
A transition was made in January of 2010 to a rural, farm town clinic provided an additional perspective on clinic and staff management. Here he was able to learn about how to serve the clients with an efficient staff and control inventory, as well as, focusing on providing as many opportunities for care to clients with concerns about costs.
Dr. Shepherd was able to institute new anesthesia protocols to improve the quantity and quality of the surgical cases performed in hospital. Pain management, expansion into orthopedic and advanced abdominal surgeries, enhanced lab diagnostics performed, and improved dental care gave clients more opportunities to choose greater care for their pets.
He now serves his hometown community with care and compassion!
Dr. Nancy Schenck
Originally from Florida, Dr. Schenck moved to the Wabash Valley area after obtaining her veterinary degree in 1990 with her late husband. She practiced in Terre Haute and joined the Four Loving Paws team in April 2016. Dr. Schenck has a long and distinguished career and achievements in breeding and showing Flat Coated Retrievers. Along with her high quality veterinary care in medicine, Dr. Schenck loves and has a strong skillset in behavior and training. She has brought her training expertise to the Four Loving Paws facility and our community. Her outgoing personality is infectious and has been a wonderful addition to our family.
Tonya has been a part of the Four Loving Paws family since 2014 and she came to us with 15 years of experience. She started in this field not only because of her love for animals but also to help them in their time of need and because they can't communicate with us. Starting as receptionist, with her hard work and determination, she became a veterinary assistant. She is planning on continuing her education and graduate with a degree in veterinary technology, and earning her title of RVT. She lives with her family in the country with her energetic German Shorthair Pointer Jager, Miss Poon a domestic shorthair cat, and several chickens, turkeys, and quail.
Brittany is a veterinary Technician here at Four Loving Paws. A member of our staff since September 2015, Brittany has 10 years worth of experience in the veterinary field. She started working at a Vale Park Animal Hospital in her hometown of Valparaiso, IN 2006 as a kennel assistant, and worked very hard to get where she is now. The thing she loves most about working at Four Loving Paws is the bond that our clinic forms with each and every one of our patients. She appreciates the passion and care we show to each of our furry babies. Brittany and her husband, John, have three fur babies. They are, in order, two cats named Dezzy and Mr. President, and one basset hound, Lady Bird. She loves spending her extra time with friends and family.
Chelsey comes to us all the way from Gatesville, Texas. She started her career as a high school volunteer for a local vet, before beginning her work as a Veterinary Technician. Chelsey has worked for a number of veterinary clinics over the last six and a half years, including Crownhill Veterinary Clinic and Honey Creek Animal Hospital. Chelsey is currently studying Veterinary Technology at Penn Foster College. She came to Four Loving Paws for a new experience. In her spare time, Chelsey enjoys spending time with her pitbull, June, Bandit the beagle mix, her cats, Tormund and Patches, and her three ducks, Al Capone, Thelma, and Lucy. She also enjoys spending time outdoors.
Amelia is a veterinary technician assistant from Terre Haute, IN. She is currently studying Biology on the pre-veterinary track at Cedarville University in Ohio. Amelia has dreamed of becoming a veterinarian since childhood, and had the opportunity to shadow Dr. Shepherd several times during her freshman year of high school. In 2015, Amelia began working with animals professionally as a kennel attendant at Brown Veterinary Hospital, in addition to working at a dog grooming salon and pet boarding facility. She returned to Four Loving Paws in the summer of 2017, and loves working here because she is able to carry out her passion for “the protection of animal health and welfare, and the prevention and relief of animal suffering”. Amelia does not have any pets of her own at this time, but is looking into a rosy boa or bearded dragon as her future companion in graduate school.
